Dressy or Business Casual Defined

Guys, How to Dress for a Nice or Fancy Restaurant

When I was in High School and University, friends would always have their birthday party at a fancy restaurant. I rarely eat at nice restaurants so, I had trouble figuring what is the appropriate attire.  Embarrassed to ask my friends or my father what should I wear?

Like every nerd I'd end up on Google.  What I found was on one end of the spectrum would be gentlemen in their 40's or attire which was way too flamboyant.  In the end, I would be either over dressed or too under-dressed and stand out like a sore thumb in group pictures. Hopefully, I can help some of you who have trouble figuring out what to wear.  [Girls have it so easy, they'd just wear a dress and they're done.]  For a guy, WTF is DRESSY CASUAL?

THIS IS DRESSY CASUAL!

Shirt: Pick a dress shirt. It can be white or be patterned.  But you want to avoid the ones that are too casual.  A good indicator that you have a dress shirt is to feel the collar; it's going to be stiff and you are also able to wear a tie with the shirt.

You won't need a tie, and don't button the top button. Note how the collar is stiff.
Pants: Pick a DARK WASH or BLACK pair of jeans, AVOID any shade of BLUE jeans, even if it's really really dark blue.

Shoes: Wear Dress Shoes, NOT sneakers or causal shoes!

Remember to buff them before you leave the door. If you don't have shoe buff just rub
the shoes with a dry microfiber cloth in circular motion.
Any form of sneakers is NOT DRESSY CASUAL!
Notes:
  • Make sure you tuck in your shirt.

  • This is an example of Casual.
  • FINALLY!! Don't wear white socks!
